Mega challenge to establish 500 MW solar panels

Posted by admin on May 18th, 2011

The govt plans to put into action a mega challenge of establishing 500 megawatts solar panels – dependent power installations with financial support with the Asian Advancement Financial institution (ADB).
As per preliminary estimate, this kind of a task will contact for a enormous total of $2-3 billion, strength ministry officials explained.
Because the lead company, the electrical power division has laid out a tactic involving nine other ministries to put into action the very ambitious program.
A delegation in the ability ministry is scheduled to attend the ADB-sponsored Asia Photo voltaic Electricity Forum in Bangkok from May 30-June one to negotiate the fund using the multilateral donor company.
Official resources pointed out the conference is factor using the ADB’s approach to advertise renewable energy in Asia employing photo voltaic electric power techniques totalling 3,000MW potential in distinct nations with all the region.

Record Energy Production in California

Posted by admin on April 25th, 2011

There was a record clean power spill in California with solar panels and wind power producing 9% of the state’s electrical power. Production from those two renewable power sources is expected to play an even bigger role in meeting the state’s energy desires as substantial new wind and solar projects in Kern County roll out over the next several years.

“We continue to set new records as we go and as new sources come on line,” stated Steve Berberich, chief operating officer of California ISO.

Berberich’s comments came throughout the public unveiling of California ISO’s new $150 million, state-of-the-art headquarters and power grid manage center in Folsom – component of Earth Day events planned by California ISO and also the energy commission.

Chevrolet volts launches test drives’s outlet

Posted by admin on February 5th, 2011

Volt is an electric vehicle, which offers a driving range of several hundred miles and more with  gasoline fill-Ups between the batteries and accumulators. The first 35 miles or so Volt can drive their gas and exhaust emissions-emissions-free by using the battery stored in its 16-kWh lithium-ion Battery Pack for electricity. When the Volt battery is running out of gas, the engine-generator extends the driving range to work seamlessly for another 340 miles or so on a full tank.

General Motors will roll out Chevrolet Volt’s to its outlet for test drives.

Taiwan Reduces Feed-In Tariffs

Posted by admin on January 30th, 2011

Taiwan has decreased the feed-in-tariffs by 30% in comparison to last year. The cost of solar power equipments has gone down and hence the feed-in-tariff. The decreased feed-in tariff is applicable for year 2011.

The reduction is impacted by the fact that the Solar Cell cost will decline from 10 to 15 percent. It is expected that solar cells annual global production will be 30 gigawatts in 2011.

“Solar power costs may fall further,” Hwang Jung-chiou, vice minister of economic affairs, said in a press conference in Taipei today.

Solar Max may disrupt telecommunications and GPS

Posted by admin on December 31st, 2010

The sun is preparing to enter the most active part of the course is called solar max.  There may be some sun-induced turbulence.  Side effects of this phenomenon may result in faulty telecommunications and GPS.

The sun passes through the cycle of high activity and relatively quiet and does not burn a coherent force. Observed in approximately two centuries, sunspots are the most characteristic point of activity. Cycles last 11 years on average, but in the current period, which began in 1996, has lasted longer than usual to get solar max. It is estimated the Solar max will be at peak  in mid 2013.

Prototype Developed which can convert Solar Power into Fuel

Posted by admin on December 27th, 2010

The Conventional Solar Power is generated using Photovoltaic cells and generated power has to be used immediately or stored in batteries for later use. Intermittent sources of renewable energy, such as solar power, pose a “storage problem.”

US and Swiss researchers has developed a device which can convert sun rays directly into fuel which can be stored for later use or may be moved to another location. This device uses a quartz window and a cavity to focus sunlight into a cylinder lined with cerium oxide, also known as ceria.

Cheap Coal for Electricity may push off Renewable Energy

Posted by admin on December 26th, 2010

The NSW Government is considering to provide subsidized coal for cheap electricity. This might result in pushing back renewable energy like solar power as the coal will be cheaper option to use.
The Nature Conservation Council has asked Australian Consumer and Competition Commission to find out breaches arsisng out of the coal mine development in cobbora.
The Coal will be supplied at the just $35 to $40 a tonne amounting to $1.3 billion. This coal will be supplied for electricity generation at cheap rates. These coal rates are much cheaper than using gas or any other renewable energy resources. The export market price of coal is $60 to $70 a tonne.
The Chief Executive Officer Pepe Clarke of  Nature Conservation Council, NSW said that this will have significant impact on competition and it will impact uptake of clean, renewable energy sources.

Solar Credits multiplier to go down from 1 July 2011

Posted by admin on December 13th, 2010

The Australian Government has announced regulatory amendments on 8th December 2010 to the Solar Rebates scheme. In one of those changes.

The Solar Credits multiplier is reduced from 5 to 4 from 1 July 2011.

Under the new Solar Power Credit arrangements, a reduced multiplier of four will apply to systems installed from 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012. The multiplier will then phase down by one each year as per the original intention of the mechanism, as the cost of installing solar systems is expected to decline further over time.

Changes to the multiplier number will not affect any other aspect of Solar Credits.

  • The level of support a system receives under Solar Credits is determined by the date the system is installed.
  • Current installations and systems installed before 1 July 2011 will not be impacted by the changes, allowing industry and households time to adjust. This means small generation units (SGUs), which include eligible solar PV systems, and small wind and hydro power generators installed up until this time will continue to receive Solar Credits support with using a multiplier of five.
